Role: Level Designer & Game Designer
Genre: Puzzle
Software: Unity
Time: 7 week student project

I designed all 12 levels for Donut Dunkers: a 3D cube puzzle game where the objective is to get the donut hole into the donut.
The levels were constructed over the course of about 6 weeks.

When designing puzzles I had to eliminate players from getting blocked or stuck while also thinking in 3 dimensions. First I needed to learn to make a puzzle that would teach players how to use the mechanics and obstacles. Second I had to deliver fun by challenging the player's understanding of those obstacles. The star system supported mastery of the levels by letting the player know that there may be a better solution.

Level 1 showcases how the game is played for the first time. The approach here was a simple room with little noise to exhibit the gameplay objectives to the player.

Level 5 has about 5 different ways to get two stars, but only one for all three. It is why It was one of my favorites to design. I consider this the first real challenge the player encounters.

I wanted to experiment toward the later levels of the game. The goals were to provide a challenge and make the player think but also be taken back in a whimsical way when they saw this. This ended as many people's favorite level.
